Saffron Crop Successfully Harvested In Sikkim; First Time Outside J&K
Sikkim's Yangyang village has successfully harvested the first crop of saffron under a pilot project. An official from Department of Science said the sowing area of saffron will be increased ten times from current 1000m² post quality assessment. The project, in collaboration with the Sikkim University’s Horticulture department, found the soil of Yangyang similar to Kashmir's Pampore. Currently, saffron cultivation is limited to Pampore, Budgam, Srinagar and Kishtwar districts of J&K.
