SailGP Becomes First Org To V-VAR Developed By Tata Communications

SailGP, the organizer of the global sailing championship, has become the first sports organization to deploy a Virtual Video Assisted Referee developed by Tata Communications. The SailGP season 2 will be held across Bermuda, Italy, UK, Denmark, France, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, and the US. The Grand Final of the nine-event season will be played in San Fransico in March 2022. Meanwhile, the V-VAR solution will help to provide umpires facility located in London, Portugal, and New Zealand. The technology also allows judges from all over the world to analyze the action and officiate remotely as if they were on the ringside of the event. Warren Jones, Chief Technology Officer, SailGP said, ''We are excited to be the first sport to use the solution...it will help to reduce the carbon footprint of our umpiring operations.'' Apart from this, SailGP will also use Tata Communications' Video Delivery Network, which is known for delivering a broadcast experience direct to consumers. ''Our low latency streaming solution enables global sports federations to deliver video in sync or faster than live TV,'' said Dhaval Ponda, Global Head of Media & Entertainment Business at Tata Communications.
