Sanju Samson's Show Goes In Vain As Punjab Kings Pip Rajasthan Royals
In a nail-biting last-ball thriller, Punjab Kings defeated Rajasthan Royals by 4 runs in the fourth match of IPL 2021. Toss-winning Royals' decision of opting to bowl favoured Kings more as Punjab's top order marauded the bowling line-up of Rajasthan which even included this IPL's most-expensive player Chris Morris. With skipper KL Rahul's 91 runs off 50 balls and Deepak Hooda's quickfire 64 runs, Kings scored 221 runs in 20 overs. On the contrary, Rajasthan's chase began with jerks as its openers were dismissed in quick succession. But, Royals' captain Sanju Samson played the anchor inning and scored his third IPL-career century, becoming first to score a ton in IPL captaincy debut. Getting support from Shivam Dube and Riyan Parag, Samson pulled Royals to a point where it needed just 13 runs in 20th over to seal the game. However, with only 5 runs required of the last ball, Samson lost his wicket at the deep-cover that resulted in his phenomenal 119-run knock go futile and Punjab clinching the game.
