SC Dismissed BJP Leader's PIL Seeking Anti-Conversion Law; Says Individuals Aged 18 or Above Are Free To Choose Their Religion
Justice R Fali Nariman-led Supreme Court bench has dismissed an anti-religious conversion plea stating that individuals aged 18 or above are free to choose their religion. The plea filed by BJP's Ashwini Upadhyay sought a central law granting imprisonment of 3-10 years with a hefty fine for those involved in religious conversions. Terminating the PIL, Justice Nariman warned the petitioner of fines, if found pressing the matter.
