SC Hands Notice To Assam NRC Coordinator For Unilateral Name Deletion

The Supreme Court has issued notice to Assam's National Register for Citizens (NRC) Coordinator Hitesh Dev Sarma, over a plea challenging former's unilateral erasure of names from NRC. The appeal registered by Jamiat Ulema-I-Hind alleged that Sarma commanded Citizen Registration Deputy Commissioners and District Registrars to eliminate ineligible person and their descendants from the ultimate draft. Moreover, the plea mentioned that the non-consultative actions by the coordinator count to contempt of court.
