Selected Fruits and Vegetables Granted 50% Subsidy in Kisan Rails
Food Processing and Railways Ministries have together decided to grant a 50% subsidy for transporting selected fruits and vegetables in the Kisan Rail, with immediate effect. Reportedly, the Ministry of Food processing industries will bear the cost of the subsidization. The financial aid was granted under the ministry's 'Operation Green- TOP to Total' scheme. As per the notification, fruits which were awarded subsidy include Mango, Banana, Guava, Papaya, Mousambi, Orange, Kinnow, Lime, Pineapple, Pomegranate, Jackfruit, Apple, Almond, and others. Pertaining to vegetables, French beans, Bitter Gourd, Brinjal, Capsicum, Carrot, Cauliflower, Chillies (Green), Okra, Cucumber, Peas, Garlic, Onion, Potato and Tomato were included. The ministry has also informed that other vegetables and fruits will be added as per requirements and recommendations in the future. Currently, four Kisan rails run in the country to transport fruits and vegetables at a faster speed to avoid damages.
