Sri Lankan Navy Arrests 9 Indian Fishermen; Destroys Nets, Equipment
For crossing international borders and fishing in their territory, the Sri Lankan navy seized a boat and arrested nine Indian fishermen near Neduntheevu on January 9. Reportedly, the fishermen’s association has accused an officer of the Lankan Navy of intentionally destroying boats and fishing nets. They have also declared an indefinite strike from January 11. Moreover, they have demanded the government to initiate the release process of 52 Indian fishermen.
