SSR Case: Mumbai Police Recording 56 Witnesses' Statements Holds no "legal sanctity"
The Centre on August 13 told the Supreme Court that the Maharashtra Police's action of recording the statements of 56 witnesses in SSR's case has no backing in law. It said no FIR has been filed by the Maharashtra Police and the officers are "merely discharging functions under [CrPC] section 174". Besides, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed CBI has registered an FIR on the request of the Bihar Government.
