Tamil Nadu Plans To Create Its 5th, India's 51st Tiger Reserve
The Tamil Nadu government on February 8 announced to create its fifth and India's 51st tiger reserve. Named as 'Srivilliputhur Megamalai Tiger Reserve', the 1,00,000-hectare reserve will include forests of Megamalai Wildlife Sanctuary and Srivilliputhur grizzled squirrel wildlife sanctuary. Announcing about the reserve, the government said that "ecosystem of predators and other species" will relatively help the growth of tigers. Reportedly, spreading across Theni, Virudhunagar and Madurai districts, the area houses over a dozen tigers.
