UFC 257 Shocker: Dustin Poirier Defeats McGregor In 2 Minutes 32 Seconds
Former interim-lightweight champ Dustin "The Diamond" Poirier avenged his loss against "The Notorious" Conor McGregor, after Poirier was demeaned at UFC 257 in Abu Dhabi, on January 24. Poirier knocked out McGregor in 2 minutes 32 seconds during the second round bombarding the latter with heavy punches that forced referee, Herb Dean to stop the contest. The lightweights showed contrast in their pace since McGregor came out early at Poirier, however, the latter picked-up the pace later. While Poirier attempted an unexpected takedown on McGregor in round one, an area considered as McGregor's kryptonite, his opponent defended well until his vicious calf-kicks. Entering round two, Poirier started getting comfortable in the octagon as he saw McGregor limping and avalanched his punches onto McGregor. With this victory, The Diamond bettered his record to 27-6, whereas McGregor fell 22-5. Interestingly, Poirier hinted at a potential trilogy bout saying, "We're 1 and 1, maybe we have to do it again". McGregor, on the other hand promised to stay active in 2021.
