UK, Japan Scientists Use Robots To Dismantle Defunct Nuclear Sites
A team of scientists from the UK and Japan using long-reach robotic-arms to dismantle old nuclear facilities like Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi and England’s Sellafield nuclear reactors. The robotic-arms called ‘LongOps’ will help to reduce the risk of spills, seepage, radiation leaks and speed up the dismantling process. Moreover, the Rs 120-crore-project will help to dilute the burden of risk assessment and decommissioning of these sites carrying potential radiation threats.
