United States Kills Al-Qaeda Leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri In Drone Attack In Afghanistan
Ayman al-Zawahiri, the senior commander of al-Qaeda, was assassinated by the US by two Hellfire missiles launched from a drone near Kabul, Afghanistan. Al-Zawahiri oversaw the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States, which killed 2,977 people, with Osama bin Laden, who was killed by the US in Pakistan in 2011. President Joe Biden said, "This mission was carefully planned, rigorously minimizing the risk of harm to other civilians."
