Protests Outside Christ University
Why are Students Protesting Outside Christ University during an Ongoing Pandemic?

National Students' Union of India (NSUI) activists were seen on the streets protesting against Christ University, while the nation ranks third on the list of the most COVID-19 hit countries. The students showed disagreement on taking the mock tests and also sent emails to UGC in regards to the same, hoping that the University would cancel the exams. They have also raised an issue with the collection of examination fees which is Rs.500, citing the reason that many of their parents have lost their jobs due to the ongoing Global Pandemic. The students believe that they have not been given any reasonable alternative to the online exams, hence the exam fee seems to be compulsory and unjust. They have also mentioned that it is increasingly difficult to take the exams as they don't have access to notes and textbooks since they were left behind in their hostels and PGs when they suddenly shut down. NSUI reveals that nearly 30 percent of the students appearing for the exams are scared to speak against the institution. "By organising Online Examinations for non-final year students, Christ University Administration is going against the government mandate. Hence, We urge Christ University Administration to immediately cancel all examinations for non-final year students," said Jayander, an NSUI activist.
