Woman, Newborn Carried 7 Km On Cot, Die Outside Hospital Without Doctors

As a testimony of the abysmal healthcare system, Jharkhand’s Giridih district’s Surja Marandi died with her newborn outside a Community Health Centre due to absence of doctors and transportation. The 20-year-old woman reportedly went into labor complications on February 25, and was carried on a cot for 7 km to reach the CHC. However, no doctor was allegedly present at the CHC to treat the woman. The infant had died even before reaching the hospital.
