UP Women's Commission Member Says Giving Phone To Girls Lead To Rapes

Embarking on controversy UP Women’s Commission member Meena Kumari said that giving mobile phones to girls can lead to rapes. Kumari made the controversial remark during a public hearing of complaints related to women in Aligarh district. "Mothers have a big responsibility. Today, if their daughters are careless, then mothers are responsible for that," she added. Besides, Anju Chaudhary, the commission's vice-chairperson distanced herself from Meena’s remarks.
