Cheetah, which has been extinct in India for almost 50 years, is expected to make a comeback to India on September 17. Reportedly, eight cheetahs including five males and three females will be reintroduced in India. PM Modi will inaugurate the ceremony scheduled at Kuno National Park. The cheetahs are reportedly being brought in using a chartered cargo plane. Further details are awaited. 

In Somalia’s capital city of Mogadishu, the battle between terrorist group Al-Shabab and security forces continues to stay grim, and has caused the deaths of at least eight civilians. The battle broke out after the terrorist group stormed a hotel in Mogadishu. Several other persons have been rescued from the hotel. Notably, the terrorists stationed themselves inside the hotel rooms, and continued their terror attacks.

Badara A. Joof, vice president of Gambia, came to India on a five-day trip to attend CII-EXIM Bank of India (Bank Conclave 2022) and other bilateral engagements. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has declared his retirement from international football. The Barcelona striker played in 72 games for Gabon, scoring 30 goals, and served as captain. He is his country's all-time leading scorer, and he was named African Footballer of the Year in 2010. He has opted to concentrate on his club career after an early exit from the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.

In Central Sudan's Sinnar State, a ferry boat capsized and sank, killing 23 women on board, on April 4. Reportedly, there were 28 passengers, and were all women. The deceased were all farmworkers, and were on their daily commute. Also, five women and the captain survived the incident. About 13 bodies have been retrieved so far, and the search for the remaining 10 have been initiated, reported ANI.
