Former Tamil Nadu CM O Panneerselvam Writes To S Jaishankar; Urges Relief To Arrested Fishermen

Former CM of Tamil Nadu and AIADMK Coordinator O Panneerselvam, has requested union external affairs minister S Jaishankar to take necessary steps for the release of Indian fishermen arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy. He urged the union minister via letter, stating that he is concerned about the well-being of Tamil fishermen who get arrested often. Recently, on August 10 and 22 some fishermen were arrested by Sri Lankan Navy.

Madras HC Issues Fresh Orders For General Council Meeting Of AIADMK

Madras High Court (HC) issued fresh orders in regard to the leadership of the All India Anna Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general council meeting. Justice G Jayachandran ordered in the favour of O. Panneerselvam, who opposed the election of Edappadi K Palaniswami as an interim general secretary during the July 11 general council meet will not be valid. Hearing the plea, the single-bench judge issued a fresh council meeting for AIADMK.

The AIADMK headquarter office at "MGR Maaligai" was reopened after being sealed for 10-days, on July 21. Notably, the Revenue authorities sealed the AIADMK office, after violence that broke out between supporters of then-rival leaders K Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam, over single leadership issues. However, on July 20, the Madras High Court quashed the orders of the Revenue authorities, directing to reopen the office.

Former Tamil Nadu CM O Panneerselvam Hospitalised After Developing COVID Symptoms

Former Tamil Nadu CM O Panneerselvam has been admitted to hospital after he developed COVID-19 symptoms. He was admitted in the isolation unit on July 15, said MGM healthcare bulletin. Furthermore, his condition is stable, and is under observation by a clinical team. Meanwhile, CM MK Stalin wished Panneerselvam a speedy recovery. Notably, this has come days after Panneerselvam was expelled from AIADMK party.

AIADMK Workers Stage Protest Against Hike In Property Tax: Tamil Nadu

AIADMK members led by party coordinator O Panneerselvam, staged a protest in Chennai's Valluvar Kottam area, against the hike in property tax announced by the Tamil Nadu Government. The DMK-led government, on April 3, announced a revision in the property tax rates, with an increase of up to 150%, reported ANI. The move which was reportedly aimed to increase funds for the local bodies, triggered agitation from the opposition.
