Government Approves Domestic Manufacturing Of Air Conditioners, LED Lights

The government has approved the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme worth Rs 6,238 crore for air conditioners, LED lights sectors on April 7. Reportedly, the companies engaged in the manufacturing of ACs and LED lights will benefit by 4-6% increment on sales of goods manufactured in India for five years. The nationwide scheme will increase domestic manufacturing, said the Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.

Indian Railways Replaces AC Coach Window Curtains With Roller Blinds

The Indian Railways has announced to replace the window curtains with roller blinds in all the air-conditioned cars. Earlier, a 2018 committee had advised to remove the curtains, citing they spread fire easily. However, on passengers’ complaint, the Railways had then decided to install Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystals to curb the sunniness. Govt. Plans To Encourage Domestic Manufacturing; Bans Import of AC With Refrigerants

Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) on October 15 moved Air Conditioners with refrigerants to the "prohibited" list. Accordingly, the import of such air conditioners into the country will be banned. Reportedly, the decision was taken to encourage domestic manufacturing and also decrease the import bills on non-essential goods. Earlier, the government had banned the import of tyres and TV sets with the same intent.

Over 200 Lives are Lost Every Year Due to Short Circuits in Andhra Pradesh

According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) statistics, on an average, over 200 lives are lost every year in Andhra Pradesh due to short circuits. Daikin Airconditioning India plans to Air Condition South India with its third manufacturing plant

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Daikin Airconditioning India, a Japenese Air Conditioner maker, planned to construct its third manufacturing unit in South India taking advantage of the Phased Manufacturing Programme (PMP) incentives.
