Russia: 7 People Die As They Consume Hand Sanitisers Instead Of Alcohol

After consuming hand sanitiser in absence of liquor, at least seven people lost their lives and two others were in coma in Russia. As reported by The Moscow Times, all the nine people ordered a 5-litre sanitiser tank from a grocery store after they ran out of alcohol. With 69% methanol, the sanitiser acted as a poison for them as anything above 30 grams of methanol is toxic to humans.

NGO To Build 35 Handwash Stations At Slums To Improve Hygiene

To improve personal hygiene and raise awareness on COVID-19, an Ahmedabad-based NGO has planned to build 35 pedal-operated handwash stations in the city's slums. Supported by UNICEF, the NGO, Agakhan Agency for Habitat, has already installed nine washing stations in five major slums - Behrampura, Ramol, Sarkhej, Danilimda and Vasna - in Ahmedabad. Mumbai: CGSI Study Reveals 50% of Hand Sanitizers of Poor Quality

According to a survey conducted by the Consumer Guidance Society of India (CGSI), about 50% of the 122 samples of hand sanitizers tested were of poor quality. Reportedly, the survey, conducted in Mumbai and Thane, found that 4% of the samples contained toxic methanol, posing serious side effects. Besides, 37% of the sanitizers tested were at odds with their label specifications and 10% were sold devoid of any claims.
