The Pune Police have filed an FIR against ex-AMU student-leader Sharjeel Usmani for delivering hate speech at a January 30 event, ‘Elgar Parishad 2021'. Booking Sharjeel under the IPC Section 153A, the police instigated a probe after a video of the speech went viral. Failing to pay property tax of over Rs 14 crore, the bank account of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has been seized by the city's municipal corporation. Reportedly, the corporation has given "enough chances" to the university to pay the dues pending for the past eight-ten years. While doing honours as the chief guest for Aligarh Muslim University's (AMU) centenary celebrations on December 22, PM Narendra Modi will set a unique feat. Interestingly, he will be the first PM in 56 years to participate in the varsity's program. Former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri was the last PM to have delivered a speech at the AMU. Dr Azimuddin Malik, who had rejected the UP Police's “no rape” theory in the Hathras rape case was denied an extension in his service at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). Malik, a temporary doctor at AMU claimed that the samples were collected 11 days after the incident and had no evidentiary value. Reportedly, his service ended on October 10. However, AMU authorities have denied any relation between the incidents.
