Amarinder Singh Joins BJP, Merges PLC-BJP In Punjab

Former Punjab CM Amarinder Singh joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of senior leaders of the saffron party.  On September 19, the veteran former Congress leader also merged his newly formed Punjab Lok Congress (PLC), which was floated last year after quitting Congress, and joined it with the BJP. The recent merger is said to be a major setback for opposition, Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab.

Ex-Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh Likely To Join BJP

Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) chief and former CM Amarinder Singh is likely to join BJP, in presence of senior leaders, on September 19. In the previous assembly polls, PLC in alliance with BJP, lost the election to AAP, and Bhagwant Mann became the CM. Notably, Singh after returning from London following a surgery for his spinal cord, met with PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

PM Modi Dials Former Punjab CM Amarinder Singh, Enquiry About Recent Spinal Surgery

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dialled former Chief Minister of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh to enquire about his health condition. Amarinder Singh successfully underwent a spinal surgery in a hospital in London, on June 25. Singh heads the Punjab Lok Congress outfit, which was an ally of BJP in the assembly polls held recently. Amarinder Singh (80) is a military historian who served as the 15th CM of Punjab.

Amarinder Singh Appoints 6 District Presidents For Punjab Lok Congress

Amarinder Singh's Punjab Lok Congress appointed six district presidents, on December 15. Kamaldeep Singh Saini, the General Secretary in charge confirmed the appointment for Barnala, Ferozepur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Hoshiarpur, Sri Muktsar Sahib and Malerkotla. Punjab Officials Provides Free Training To State Police Aspirants

Punjab Police has started providing free physical training and coaching to candidates who aspire to join the state police force. The decision comes after CM Amarinder Singh had announced the recruitment of a total of 4,362 constables in districts and an armed cadre of the state police. The physical screening test includes three tests; a 1600-meter run, a high jump, and a long jump. The recruitment will commence from July 15.

Punjab Urges Centre To Clear Rs 937 Crore Worth Projects For Guru Tegh Bahadur

Punjab CM Amarinder Singh, in the national committee meeting on April 8, urged the NDA government to clear state projects worth Rs 937 crore on Guru Teg Bahadur's 400th birth anniversary. Punjab plans to renovate towns and cities associated with the Guru primarily in Amritsar, Sri Anandpur Sahib and Baba Bakala. Besides, textile and handicraft institutes in name of Guru Teg Bahadur is also planned. The main program is slated for May 1.
