Madhya Pradesh: 5 Cheetahs To Be Released From Camps Into Free Ranging
Five cheetahs, three females and two males will be released from the acclimatisation camps into free-ranging conditions in Madhya Pradesh's Kuno National Park before the onset of the monsoon in June, said the Union Environment Ministry. The ministry said the decision was taken after a team of experts reviewed the current status of the "Project Cheetah" on the directions of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA.)

Supaul District Starts Culling To Prevent Bird Flu Spread: Bihar
After the Bihar Animal Husbandry department confirmed the spread of bird flu, Supaul district administration started killing birds, chickens and their eggs in the region. As per sources, birds in the range of 1-9 km range of affected areas are being killed to prevent the spread of the disease. Ram Shankar Jha, Animal Husbandry Officer said, "Teams have been deployed to sanitize the area completely".

Karnataka Passes Anti-Cow Slaughter Bill Amid Opposition's Protest

Minister Warns On Zoonotic Nature Of Bird Flu; No Deaths Reported
Animal Husbandry Minister Sanjeev Balyan on January 6 said the spreading bird flu could be transmitted to human however no such case has been reported in the country. Warning people about the non-preventive nature of flu, he informed the states had been asked to take preventive measures including timely sampling and safe disposal of dead avians. Moreover, he informed a central control room has been created at the department in Delhi.

Madhya Pradesh To Get Funds Through 'Cow Tax' For Welfare Of Animal
Aiming for cow-welfare, Madhya Pradesh's animal husbandry department has suggested levying 'cow tax' on fuel usage in the state. The department has proposed to charge 15 paise per litre on petrol and diesel, along with Rs 10 on gas cylinders. Reportedly, the tax estimates to fetch around Rs 200 crore a year. Interestingly, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have already laid 'cow tax' in their states.

Congo Fever: New Virus Creates Threats, Alert Issued in Maharashtra's Palghar
On September 29, Palghar district alerted its people for Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) commonly known as "Congo Fever", after four cases were reported in the neighbouring districts.
