ACB Arrests Police Officer For Accepting Bribe: J&K

The Anti-corruption team caught Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohammad Sultan Mir of J&K Police red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a complainant. Following which, Sultan Mir was arrested and taken into custody. The bribe money was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses. Further investigation on the matter is underway.

Supreme Court Puts Karnataka CM B.S. Yediyurappa's Corruption Case On Hold

Karnataka CM B.S. Yediyurappa got some momentary relief when the supreme court put the corruption case against him on hold. The chargesheet against him was filed by Karnataka Lokayukta accusing him of disrupting government acquisition of land and giving it to private individuals for industrial use 10 years ago. In March, the Karnataka high court asked a special court to proceed against him based on the chargesheet filed by Lokayukta.

Asansol Coal Scam: CBI Conducts Raids in 25 Regions

CBI carried out raids in 25 regions of West Bengal as part of Anup Majhi's "Asansol Coal Scam", on November 28. It is suspected that Majhi runs an open-cast coal mine along the Bengal-Jharkhand border. Reports suggests that the coal fraud might have funded various political parties in the province. It is believed that these raids are crucial citing the West Bengal Assembly polls, which are scheduled take place in April-May next year.
