Cyclone 'Biparjoy' is one of the worst in the history of cyclones in India. After 1988, this is the worst, long-lasting cyclone which is likely to progress to 'severe cyclone' As per the experts and IMD, the cyclone which started from the Arabian Sea, will last for at least 10-days, affecting regions of Gujarat, Mumbai and some parts of Rajasthan. In addition, NDRF and other forces are deployed in action.

In breaking news, a helicopter with seven passengers and two pilots crashed in the Arabian Sea, near an ONGC rig, in Mumbai. The incident happened on June 28, afternoon, following which a rescue team rushed to the spot and started a rescue operation. Notably, a rescue operation is underway and so far, six people have been picked up from the accident spot. This is a developing story, more details are awaited.

India and France began their five-day mega naval exercise in the Arabian sea, on March 31. The excercise is carried out annually, and this is the 20th edition of 'Varuna' exercise. According the Indian Navy, ships, submarines, maritime patrol aircrafts, fighter aircrafts and helicopters of both the navies will take part in the exercise. The National Disaster Response Force on May 14 precautionary deployed 24 teams ahead of an anticipated cyclone Tauktae from the Arabian Sea. First cyclone of 2021, Tauktae is expected to landfall on May 15 with forecasts of heavy downpours across parts of the western coast for the next 4-5 days. According to India Meteorological Department, the cyclone will reach northwestwards of Gujarat and adjoining Pakistan coasts by May 18. 

The Indian and Indonesian navies on May 8 conducted military drills in the Southern Arabian Sea. The ‘Passage’ exercise focused to enhance interoperability and understanding between the friendly navies. While Indian Navy was represented by INS Sharda, an offshore patrol vessel, the Indonesian Navy was represented by corvette KRI Sultan Hasanudin.
