Army Force Forms Special Panel To Examine Disability Pension

After questions were raised regarding the special grant in disability pension, the Armed Forced were directed to form a panel and examine the same.  The Department of Military Affairs headed by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan directed for the panel to examine the same.  The decision was in the view of Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report tabled in Parliament. Armed Forces Can Take Disciplinary Action Against Adultery, Says SC

In a significant judgement, the Supreme Court clarified that its 2018 judgment striking down the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 497 (Adultery) will not have any impact on the court martial proceedings.  On January 31, the court said, the proceedings initiated against personnel serving in the armed forces for their adulterous conduct will be allowed as an offence. A five-judge bench, headed by Justice KM Joseph announced the decision.

Centre To Soon Allow Women's Entry At National Defence Academy

In a remarkable move by the Centre, the long-pending decision has been clarified and women's entry will be soon allowed at the National Defense Academy (NDA). However, once the decision is officially declared, the woman after her class 12 boards can start preparing for an entrance exam. "The girls will be inducted for permanent commission", Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati informed the bench.

Nagaland-Assam Border Issue: 10-Member Committee Passes Resolution

In an out-of-the-court settlement, Nagaland Legislative Assembly formed a ten-member committee from both sides headed by chief minister Neiphiu Rio and following a long meeting, it adopted a three-point resolution to resolve the decade-long border issue with Assam. The committee has to submit its report within three months. The two sides withdrew their armed police forces on July 31 and agreed to de-escalate tension.

Govt Nods DG AFMS To Recruit Ex-Army Med Officers To Aid COVID Crisis

The Defence Ministry has ordered the DG Armed Forces Medical Services to recruit ex-Army Medical Corps/Short Service Commission officers on a contractual basis. Recruited for maximum 11 months, the ex-army will aid the civil administration in its fight with COVID-19 under the 'Tour Of Duty' scheme. Himachal: 15,000 Vehicles Notified To Change Olive-Green Colour

Himachal Pradesh's transport department has notified nearly 15,000 vehicle owners to switch from olive-coloured vehicles within three months. India To Purchase 30 US Armed Drones Worth $3 Billion

India is likely to sign $3-billion deal to purchase 30 armed drones 'MQ-9B Predator' from the US in April 2021, as per the officials. The deal aims to strengthen India's military presence in sea and at land amid rising tensions with China and Pakistan. Capable of carrying a payload of about 1,700 kilograms, the MQ-9B Predator drones can remain in air for up to 48 hours. As of now, India has only surveillance-bound drones.

DRDO Completes Sucessful Trial of BrahMos

Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), on September 30, sucessfully tested the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile in Chandipur, Odisha. Reportedly, the missile has a strike range of 400 km and can be launched from land, sea and air. DRDO officials confirmed that all the parameters were achieved in the trial. Chattisgarh: CAF Soldier Kidnapped by the Naxals; Dead Body Found After Seven Days

Chattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) soldier's body was found tossed on the Gangalur-Bijapur Road, on September 18.  Reportedly, the soldier was kidnapped seven days back and killed by Naxals. The victim was identified as Malluram Suryavanshi who was posted in the CAF's Pioneer Platoon. "The Gangalur Area Committee took responsibility for the murder" said the Superintendent of Police, Bijapur, Kamlochan Kashyap.

US Troops to Leave Iraq, Country Declares Defeat of IS Militants

US has confirmed the withdrawal of 2200 troops from Iraq by September end. After withdrawal, 2000 US soldiers will be left to advise and aid Iraqi forces in eradicating Islamic State (IS) militants. In January, the issue with the soldiers became contentious, after US killed Iranian General Qasem Soleimani using a drone, in Baghdad. Reportedly, Iraq had declared defeat of IS militants in 2017 and asked the US forces to leave.
