Assam Police Continues Crackdown Against Child Marriage, Arrests 2,500 People

In Assam, the police is cracking down on the cases of child marriage cases, registered in the State.  With over 4,074 cases of child marriages, the Assam Police continued their arrests for a third day in a row and arrested nearly 2,500 people for marrying minor girls or facilitating such marriages. Reacting to this, many citizens staged a protest against the State Police and demanded the release of those arrested.

Sri Lankan Navy Detains 12 Indian Fishermen For Crossing Border

The Navy of Sri Lanka held 12 fishermen near Neduntheevu island for crossing the maritime border, on April 2. In addition, the fishermen were taken to Mayilatti port for further probe. Also, their boat was seized by the Sri Lankan Navy. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin had written a letter to External Affairs Minister Jaishankar appealing to them to take strict actions over attacks on Tami Nadu fishermen.

1 Held For Raping 87-Year-Old Woman In Tilak Nagar: Delhi

In Delhi's Tilak Nagar, Delhi Police on February 15, arrested a 30-year-old sweeper for allegedly raping an 87-year-old woman. "He sweeps in front of the houses of the people," said police. The accused was arrested within 16 hours with the help of a CCTV camera. On February 13, the incident took place when the victim's daughter was not at home and later found her mother bleeding from her nose.

UP Police Busts Illegal Arms Unit, Arrests Two Persons

A manufacturing unit of illegal arms have been busted with recovery of cache of arms in Uttar Pardesh on January 22, said police. Two persons were arrested, while seventeen pistols, three guns, 11 under manufacture pistols, and 32 barrels were seized in the raid. Police further said that the accused confessed that arms were being manufactured to sell them during upcoming elections in Uttar Pardesh and Uttarakhand, scheduled in February.

CBI Arrests 'GAIL' Director ES Ranganathan In Bribery Case:

The director of GAIL ES Ranganathan was arrested by the CBI, for allegedly taking bribes of over Rs 50 lakh, from private companies buying GAIL marketed products. The CBI had busted the alleged bribery scam and arrested five individuals on January 15, and had conducted searches at eight locations including Ranganathan's residence. Delhi Police Arrest 3 Persons For Supplying Illicit Liquor: Delhi

The Delhi police arrested three persons from Mahipalpur in Southwest Delhi, for allegedly supplying illicit liquor. Arrested have been identified as Arvind, Amit and Alok. According to the police, an information was received that three persons with illicit liquor will pass through NH-8, following which the security personnel intercepted their vehicle and caught them. Police Arrest 5 Persons In Robbery Case: Delhi

Police on January 13, claimed to have arrested five people, including two employees of mobile accessories firm in Delhi, on charges of robbing over Rs 17 lakh belonging to the firm. Police said that the accused were interrogated, before they confessed. Reportedly, Rs 16.80 lakh of money, mobile phones, autorickshaw and a two wheeler were recovered during raids. Notably, one of the accused had filed a compliant about the robbery.

Forest Personnel Arrest 3 Persons For Possession Of Tiger Teeth And Nails: MP

Forest personnel arrested three persons for possession of tiger teeth and nails. Reportedly, two canine teeth and 13 nails of a tiger were seized from their possession in MP's Umaria district. Officials said that the forest officials intercepted a motorcycle of said persons, and found the canine teeth and nails, following which a case was registered. Further investigation on the matter is underway.
