Premier League leaders Arsenal were knocked out of the Europa League at the last-16 stage in a penalty shootout 1-1 (3-5) loss by Sporting Lisbon at Emirates Stadium. Gabriel Martinelli saw his spot kick saved in the shoot-out, allowing Nuno Santos to convert the winner, after a 1-1 draw on Thursday night, and a 3-3 draw on aggregate. After the game, the club's manager spoke about the performance in presser.

Arsenal signed Manchester City forward player Gabriel Jesus, in $ 54 million, on July 4. The Brazil international welcomed Jesus, who scored 95 goals in 236 games over nearly six seasons at City and won the Premier League four times, League Cup three times and the FA Cup.  "We spoke a couple of times about the club, the players, the project and the future," said Jesus.

Arsenal on October 2 booked a spot in the League Cup quarterfinals after securing a narrow win against Liverpool with a 5-4 penalty shootout. After the 90-minute game ended goal-less, Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno saved two penalties, after which Joe Willock scored a winning penalty. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said, "To come here and play with the determination and courage is a big step forward for the team."
