Inspiring! Man Lives 555 Days Without A Heart Awaiting A Donor

The story of a man who lived 555 days without his heart while waiting for a donor is truly inspiring. Reportedly, the heart of Stan Larkin failed to keep him alive but he chose to wear a 13.5-pound freedom portable drive to keep his artificial heart beating for more than a year. "It brought my life back to me," said Larkin. Finally, the 25-year-old Larkin received a donor in 2016.

Selwa Hussain: UK Woman Carrying Her Artificial Heart In Backpack

A UK woman named Selwa Hussain carries a 6 Kg artificial heart in her backpack. The bag consisting batteries, electric motor and a pump is attached to her chest, which in turn pumps blood inside her body. Diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, a natural heart condition, Selwa in 2017 underwent a treatment in Harefield hospital following her infirm health. Fitted during a 6-hour operation, the artificial heart costed around Rs 88.72 lakh.
