Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics, and Information Technology, placed the first 5G call on a trial network put up at IIT Madras using domestically produced technology on May 19. The complete end-to-end network, as per the minister, was conceived and constructed in India. He claimed it was an attempt to demonstrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to a self-sufficient India. 

Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed Rajya Sabha that the ministry is aiming to establish 100 'Gati Shakti cargo terminals in the next three fiscal-year.
