Thailand decriminalized marijuana growing and possession on June 9. Thailand is Asia's first country to legalize marijuana. Uruguay and Canada are the only nations that have legalized recreational marijuana on a national level so far. Hong Kong's luxury housing market boosted as Wharf Holdings Ltd and Nan Fung Development Ltd's HK apartment at Mount Nicholson was sold fror HK$640 million. The apartment has three parking areas, measuring 442 sq metres. It is reported to be the most expensive apartment per sq foot in Asia. The sale has broken the record of CK Asset Holdings Ltd, which was sold for HK$136,000.

US Nuclear Submarine Hit By Unknown Object While Operating In Asia

The US Navy said that a US nuclear submarine was damaged after colliding with an unknown object while operating underwater in Asia on October 7. Reportedly, it didn't cause any life-threatening incident, but approximately a dozen sailors were injured. Luckily, its ''nuclear propulsion plant and spaces weren't affected''. The submarine was travelling in the South China Sea to counter China's dominance in the region, media reports said.

According to Nikkei Asia's report, Indonesia has surpassed India to become Asia's Covid-19 Hotspot after reporting more than 40,000 cases for the second consecutive day on July 13. Meanwhile, India reported 31,443 fresh COVID-19 cases which are said to be the lowest in 118 days. ''Nationwide there are still beds, but cases are very high because of uneven outbreaks of the delta variant,'' said Indonesia's Health Minister Budi Sadikin.

Singapore Kicks Off Vaccination With Pfizer's COVID-19 Vaccine

Singapore on December 30 became the first Asian country to begin its vaccination programme with Pfizer-BioNTech's COVID-19 vaccine. Over 30 staff at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases were among the first to receive the vaccine's shot. Moreover, the second dose of the vaccine will be administered on January 20. Reportedly, Singapore has signed to purchase other COVID vaccines, including those of Moderna and Sinovac, as well.
