Assam's BJP unit has stated that the party's parliamentary board will unveil the chief ministerial face in tandem with the election results scheduled for May 2. BJP To Contest 92 Seats In Assam, Hands 26 For AGP, 8 For UPPL
The ruling BJP will contest in 92 seats of the 126-member Assam Assembly elections. Sealing the seat-sharing deals in the poll-bound state, the BJP has offered 26 seats to its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and eight to the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL). The incumbent party has also planned to offer its symbol to the candidates of a local party. The north-eastern state will undergo three-phase elections on March 27, April 1 and 6.

Assam: Himanta Biswa Sarma Not Interested in Contesting Assembly Polls
Assam Health Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party's contriver Himanta Biswa Sarma on August 25 said that he was not "interested in contesting the assembly elections" due next year. While saying he intends just to contribute for the party and the state, Sarma tweeted, "My only ambition is to see a BJP government with 100+ seats.” Sarma had been in headlines over news reports of him being the chief ministerial candidate.
