Amit Shah Celebrates One-Year Of Assam Government, Will Participate In Events

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is on a two-day visit to Assam and marked the first year of the Himanta Biswa Sarma's BJP-led Assam Government. On May 10, Shah planted saplings and is scheduled to address several events and public rallies in the state. Shah will also launch several development projects in Assam, and appreciated the State Government for completing one year of rule.

Assam Govt Takes Over Nagaon & Chachar Paper Mills With Highest Bid

The AIDC, on behalf of the Assam Government took over the assets of Hindustan Paper Corporation Limited (HPCL) Nagaon and Chachar Paper Mill, on March 28.  During the auction, the AIDC was the highest bidder with Rs 700 crores, including all outstanding dues of the two mills and signed paper in presence of officials. Notably, the Hemant Biswa Government is aiming to intervene in paper mills, on humanitarian ground.

Assam Govt Demands Fresh NRC Verification, Holds Meeting

Assam CM Hemant Biswa asked for fresh National Register of Citizens (NRC) of Assam people, as over lakhs of people left out in the state. In regard to this, the state government held meeting with the All Assam Student Union (AASU). This is the second time, Assam government emphasized on the need of fresh NRC list, after re-verification. Recently, the state government also asked to move SC, demanding new NRC.

Assam Government Issues Fresh COVID-19 Guidelines To Curtail Spread

The Assam Government, on January 24, has issued a fresh SoP amid COVID-19 surge and the Republic Day celebration. Night curfew will be imposed from 10 pm to 6 am and schools will remain closed for offline classes, continuing with the online classes. The gathering for Republic Day function will also be limited to a maximum of 1,000 people in the Kamrup district, without participation of school students.

Assam Govt Relaxes Night Curfew Timings Amid Bhogali Bihu

In the view of Bhogali Bihu festival in Assam, the State Government announced relaxation from the imposed night curfew timings. On January 12, the Assam Government announced revised night curfew timings from 11:00 pm - 4:00 am, instead of previous 10:00 pm - 6:00 am. The relaxed timings are in effect only on January 13, for Bhogali Bihu celebration.

Assam Govt Revises Night Curfew Timings Amid COVID-19 Surge

In view of the COVID-19 surge and Omicron threat, the Assam Government revised night curfew timing, from January 8. The imposed curfew would be from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am, instead of previous 11:30 pm to 6:00 am.  Hemant Biswas, Assam CM said all the offices, markets, malls would be functional till 9:00 pm. Anyone violating the rules of COVID-19 and night curfew would face consequences.

Assam: Hindustan Paper Corporation Works Out Relief Package For Laid-off Workers

After the Cachar Paper Mill and the Nagaon Paper Mill in Assam were taken down in October 2017, an Agreement was finally shook between the State Government and the Hindustan Paper Corporation. They agreed to compensate the laid off workers with a relief package of Rs 570 Crores while the mills will remain under the State government. The Agreement also seizes to provide full time employment opportunity to ex-employees.

ACS Official Arrested On Accusations Of Having Disproportionate Assets: Assam

The Chief Minister's Special-Vigilance-Cell has arrested an Assam-Civil-Service (ACS) official on accusations of having disproportionate assets. Investigators were looking into officer Saber Rahman after an allegation claimed his assets had been obtained illegally and corruptly, contradicting his recognised sources of income. While Rahman was the SP of the vigilance-cell, his assets totalled more than Rs 100 crore, including 89 unloaded… read-more

Assam: 7 Districts To Go Under Lockdown From July 7

With the increasing number of Covid-19 cases, the Assam government has declared a complete lockdown in 7 districts. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, the seven districts that will be put under lockdown are Goalpara, Golaghat, Jorhat, Sonitpur, Biswanath, Lakhimpur, and Morigaon. The lockdown restrictions will come into effect from July 7 and will continue until further instructions are issued, as per the mandate.
