CJI DY Chandrachud Agrees To Hear Petition Against Pawan Khera's Arrest

The Supreme Court (SC) bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud agreed to the urgent listing of a petition filed by Congress, against the arrest of its spokesperson Pawan Khera. Notably, the petition was filed after Pawan Khera was arrested by Assam Police over a remark against PM Modi, at a public rally. Notably, the Delhi Airport drama unfolded, just a few days after the Modi remark.

Assam Police Continues Crackdown Against Child Marriage, Arrests 2,500 People

In Assam, the police is cracking down on the cases of child marriage cases, registered in the State.  With over 4,074 cases of child marriages, the Assam Police continued their arrests for a third day in a row and arrested nearly 2,500 people for marrying minor girls or facilitating such marriages. Reacting to this, many citizens staged a protest against the State Police and demanded the release of those arrested.

Assam Police Seizes Drugs Worth Rs 80 Lakhs, Arrests 2

In Assam's Karbi Anglong district, the police seized heroin worth Rs 80 lakh and arrested two persons, including one woman, confirmed police on July 15. The arrest was made after a police patrolling team suspected two, one from Bihar and a local woman. After search, they recovered 122.22 gms of the narcotic, hidden in soap boxes, and around Rs 5,000. The police registered a case and launched an investigation.

Assam Police Detain Nine People For Allegedly Smuggling Cattle

Assam Police detained nine people for reportedly smuggling cows from Dhemaji to Nagaon or Jorabat and from Nagaon to Shillong on May 13. In Nagaon, police also rescued 102 cattle heads and seized seven cars. More research is being carried out.

ANLA's 13 Militants Surrender Before Assam Police

In Assam's Karbi Anglong district, 13 militants of All Adivasi National Liberation Army surrendered before the security forces on May 8. As per sources, the surrendered militants also deposited a cache of arms and ammunition, and rifles, in presence of the Assam Police, CRPF and Assam Rifles in Bokajan police station. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state continued its peace march with the surrender of the militants.

2 Held With 297 Grams Of Heroin In Karimganj: Assam

In Assam's Ashimganj area, police on March 6, arrested two accused with 297 grams of heroin packed in 27 soap cases and were concealed under the bonnet of a car, said Samarjit Basumutary, Officer-in-Charge of Patharkandi. The accused has been identified as Saif Uddin and Taj Uddin. "Based on the intelligence input, we had set up a Nakka checking and intercepted the car," said police. However further investigation is underway.

In Assam's Karbi Anglong district, police on February 25, arrested two accused with 1.04 kg of heroin. According to Assam police, the international market value of seized drugs from the accused is worth Rs 7 crore. "Two accused have been arrested in the operation. The recovered heroin costs more than Rs 7 crores," Assam police said to ANI. Further investigation is underway.

Assam Police Arrests 1 With 129 Grams Of Heroin: Simlaguri

In Assam's Simlaguri, Assam police on February 19, arrested one accused with 129 grams of heroin and 94 vials. On February 19, a raid was conducted in Simlaguri by the Police Point staff and their they seized 129 grams of heroin, 94 vials, a mobile set, and Rs 1,100 cash.  "The accused is arrested for further lawful action," Baksa police tweeted. Meanwhile, further investigation, in this case, is underway.

Police Shoot Suspected Drug Peddler In Assam

Assam Police shot a suspected drug peddler after he allegedly tried to escape from custody in Karbi-Anglong area on January 17. Sources said that Police intercepted a truck at Bokajan, and arrested two persons, before recovering heroin from their possession. He said that one of the drug peddlers tried to escape, who was fired by policemen at his leg, & was admitted in hospital where he is 'stable'.
