504 Grams Of Heroin Seized In Assam’s Karimganj; 1 Arrested
In Assam’s Karimganj district, police seized 504 grams of heroin and arrested one person in connection to it on September 24. Reportedly, the operation was fueled by secret information. According to the police, the drugs were packed in 43 soap cases, and were seized near toll gate. Earlier on September 22, 1,483 Kg of ganja packed in 270 packets from a vehicle in Assam’s Kokrajhar district.

9 PFI Members Arrested In Assam In Join Operation By ED, NIA & Police
Assam police arrested around nine persons linked with Popular Front of India (PFI) on September 22. The join operation was organised by ED, NIA and the state police department. The operation involved 1,500 personnel across 11 states. About 106 PFI members were arrested in total, in an operation that commenced at around 1 pm and concluded at around 5 am.

CPI Maoist Activist Samrat Chakraborty Arrested By NIA
CPI (Maoist) activist Samrat Chakraborty alias "Nilkamal Sikdar" was arrested in West Bengal in a case related to setting up units of the outlawed group in Assam, confirmed NIA spokesperson on September 20. Chakraborty (37,) a resident of Seth Bagan Road, North 24 Parganas district, was also known as "Amit, Argha, Nirmal and Nirman". He was arrested from Mahispata, near Narayana School for his activities as a Maoist.

Man Held With Gold Biscuits Worth Rs 50 Lakhs: Assam
Six gold biscuits, smuggled from Myanmar and worth nearly Rs 50 lakh, were recovered from a person travelling by train to Delhi for selling the metal to a jeweller, confirmed an RPF official on September 15. The accused, Mahesh Kumar, who claims to be a resident of West Bengal was caught on board the Awadh Assam Express with a gold of weight one kg, hidden inside his socks.

Central Govt Signs Peace Pact With Tribal Organisations In Assam
The Centre signed an agreement with eight tribal militant organisations based in Assam aiming peace in the region. Missing Woman Found Dead In Paddy Field Under Mysterious Circumstances: Assam
In Assam’s Karimganj, a 32-year-old woman was found dead in a paddy field under mysterious circumstances on September 11. The incident was reported from Kachubari area under Patharkandi constituency. According to the police, the woman went missing on September 10. The police further stated that they’ve found injury marks on her face and head. An investigation on the matter is underway.

Goods Train Hits Wild Elephant Causing Death In Assam’s Hojai
In Assam’s Hojai district, a Wilde elephant was killed after being hit by a goods train in the evening of September 8. The incident occurred near Hawaipur, at around 6:20 pm, when the animal tried to cross the train tracks. Railway CPRO said that “The elephant was hit by a cement-laden goods train. After getting dashed, the elephant fell down on the track”.

Police Arrest 4 Persons & Seize Fake Currency Machines: Assam
In two separate operations, the Assam police have arrested four persons and seized two fake currency making machines, informed police on September 9. The arrests were made in Nagaon and Hojai districts. The arrested persons include Jalal Uddin (35), Vanlalruati (42) and Zoramchhani (40) from Nagaon. And from Hojai, Abdul Jalil was arrested. Various fake currencies were also seized. Further details are awaited.

Massive Fire Breaks Out At Benelli & Isuzu Showroom In Assam’s Guwahati
In Assam’s capital city of Guwahati, a massive fire broke out at Benelli and Isuzu showroom near Basistha, on September 7. The incident has left the premises completely gutted in fire, and all vehicles have been destroyed. The sales executive manager said that Isuzu cars worth Rs 1.5 crore were burnt, and Benelli bikes worth Rs 6-7 lakhs were destroyed. Reportedly a total loss of Rs 4-5 crore was caused.

Two More Persons Arrested For Alleged Links To Al-Qaeda & Ansarullah Bangla: Assam
In Assam’s Barpeta, two persons have been arrested for their alleged links to Al-Qaeda Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT). According to Superintendent of Police Amitava Sinha, around 37 persons have been arrested so far, for alleged links to AQIS and ABT. Furthermore, the administration is conducting an eviction drive in a Madrasa in Barpeta, stating that the Madrasa was constructed illegally on government land.
