Assembly Polls: EC Orders FIR Against Victory Congregation In 5 States

The Election Commission on May 2 directed the Chief Secretaries of the states to file FIR in every case where there is a victory gathering after election results are declared. The EC also directed the authorities to suspend the police station in charge of the area where victory gatherings are reported. Due to COVID-19 outspread, the EC had earlier banned victory rallies and gatherings in all five states.

West Bengal Preps For Counting On May 2 With Heavy Force Deployment

West Bengal is all set for vote counting on May 2 with 108 counting centers in 23 districts. The Election Commission has deployed 256 companies of central forces while enforcing strict COVID-19 regulations. Moreover, three-tier security has been set in place at counting centers where polled electronic voting machines and VVPAT units are stored. Reportedly, at least 292 observers have been appointed at the counting centers.

TN Polls: BJP Candidate Booked For Campaigning Before Mosque

BJP candidate Khushbu Sundar of Thousand Lights constituency was booked for allegedly campaigning in front of a mosque on April 2. The case was filed at the Kodambakkam police station by an officer of an additional flying squad. The complaint was filed after she and her followers were found distributing pamphlets in front of a mosque without adequate permission from the authorities violating the model code of conduct.
