Review meeting were held by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to discuss the preparedness for the upcoming elections in Himachal Pradesh. The review meetings were held with Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police, IG, DIG, CAPF and Nodal officers of 12 districts. “Today we held a meeting with all political parties,” said Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar.
BJP's National president JP Nadda stated that Himachal Pradesh's CM Jai Ram Thakur will continue to be the CM if BJP wins the upcoming state assembly elections, later this year. He further stated that other than 10-15% of the ministers, everyone will be retained. "BJP will contest the Assembly Elections under his leadership (Jai Ram Thakur)," JP Nadda told the reporters.
The Special Sessions Court for trial of MPs and MLAs has issued summons to Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and two others. The court directed the three of them to appear on March 28, in connection with a 2014 case. Reportedly, a case was registered against the trio for organising a road-show during 2014 assembly elections, allegedly without obtaining prior permission from the authorities, reported PTI.
The BJP stated that Pushkar Singh Dhami will continue as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, on March 21. After winning the Assembly polls of Uttarakhand, the party was in a dilemma as to who will be the next CM of the state. The confusion reportedly arose due to a loss Dhami faced in Khatima, a seat which he never lost since 2012 polls. BJP won 47 out of 70 seats.

Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh elections, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee will start her two-day visit on February 7. On February 8, at 5.20 pm Mamata will reach UP and will hold a press conference at the Samajwadi Party office, extending support for the upcoming elections. "In Uttar Pradesh, I am not going to contest Assembly polls," said CM Banerjee. Notably, the UP elections are scheduled for February 10.
Ahead of the Punjab elections, Punjab's BJP president Ashwani Kumar filed nominations from Pathankot on January 31 and said Punjab wants a stable government.
