Neeraj Chopra Wins Silver Medal At World Championships, Throws 88.13m

Olympian Neeraj Chopra brings a silver medal with a throw of 88.13m at the World Athletics Championship finals, on July 23. With this fourth-attempt throw, Chopra secured a second position, whereas the gold medal was won by Anderson Peter of Grenada who threw 90.54m at the event. Furthermore, with this, Neeraj Chopra became the first Indian to bag a silver medal in track and field athletics, in world championships.

Olympic Medalist Deon Lendore Dies At 29 Due To Car Crash

Olympic and world championship medalist from Trinidad and Tobago, Deon Lendore (29), died in a car accident in Texas on January 10. According to Texas A&M University, for who he had worked as assistant coach voluntarily, the sprinter was returning home from practice, when he met with an accident. Lendore competed at three olympic games, and was training as a professional athlete with Puma, while serving as coach in Texas.

Mary D’souza Sequeira, Mumbai's first women Olympian athlete and 'Dhyan Chand' award winner had to organize a dance and a whist competition to raise funds to participate in Finland’s Helsinki 1952 Olympics. Her journey as an athlete began with the Asian Games 1951, where she bagged bronze in the 200m race and silver in the 4x100m relay. Sequeira claimed gold in the 1954 Manali’s Asian Games.

Milkha Singh Admitted Due To COVID-19 Complications; Condition Stable

Veteran athlete Milkha Singh was hospitalised to Mohali’s Fortis Hospital on May 24 after his condition deteriorated. Reportedly, the 90-year-old legendary athlete had contracted COVID-19 and his oxygen level started dipping. He also endured Diarrhoea due to the side impacts of the endorsed medications. While his condition is steady now, his son Golfer Jeev Milkha Singh said, "He is a strong man, always positive and will recover soon."

Pune Athlete Wins 400m Gold At 36th National Junior Athletic Games

An 18-year-old athlete Siddesh Choudhari stood first in 400m hurdles at the 36th National Junior Athletic Championship. While Pune's Siddhesh recorded his career-best in 53.91 seconds, Nashik’s Swyam Badhe stood second. Moreover, Maharashtra's Rujula Bhonsle bagged emerging player trophy at the games. Reportedly, Haryana, with 21 gold, secured the top position in the medal tally followed by Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh with 13 gold each.
