To end the military conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh region that has been ongoing for over a month, Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia have signed a peace pact. Under the pact, the Azeri and Armenian forces will withdraw from the respective regions they have captured and Russia will deploy peace-keepers to "patrol the frontline". The Nagorno-Karabakh dispute, that was rooted back in 1994, has claimed over 5000 lives since September this year.

Just before the US presidential elections, the country's Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will arbitrate a talk between Armenia and Azerbaijan to ease tensions in the Nagorno-Karabakh region. Azerbaijan and Armenia, who are fighting for the contentious Nagorno-Karabakh region, have extended their firing to two other cities. Reportedly, Armenia claims that Azerbaijan attacked Stepanakert and Azerbaijan stated that Armenians had attacked the city of Ganja. Armenia and Azerbaijan on September 27 involved in a clash over contentious Nagorno-Karabakh region. Reportedly, both the countries informed deaths of civilians in the clash. After the clash, the Russian Foreign ministry called for peace talks to normalise the situation in the former Soviet countries. However, Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan supported Azerbaijan after naming Armenia as a "threat to peace and tranquility."
