BWF Cancels Hong Kong & Macau Badminton Open Amid COVID Restrictions

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has announced the cancellation of two world-tour badminton events—Hong Kong Open Super 500 and Macau Open Super 300. The cancellation was in view of COVID-19 restrictions imposed in the two countries. Notably, the governing bodies of the two countries had informed them that hosting an event would not be viable under the current situation. The cancelled events are scheduled to take place in November.

Indian Men's Badminton Team Enters Thomas Cup Finals: Assured For Silver

India has entered the finals of the Thomas Cup for the first time in its history. On May 13, the team won the tournament and created history after securing a position after 73 years.  Indian Men's Badminton Team triumphed over Denmark in a hard-fought semi-final. India is now assured of Silver and will play against Indonesia in semi finals. The Thomas Cup 2022 is a major victory for India.

PV Sindhu Defeated By South Korean Player In BWF 2021 Finals

Indian Badminton Star PV Sindhu was defeated by South Korea's An Se-Young in the BWF World Tour finals on December 5. An Se-Young scored 21-16 against Sindhu's 21-12 in the final round of the match, which lasted 39 minutes. The BWF Finals Tour 2021 started on December 1 and concluded on December 5, with the victory of South Korea. The event was held in Bali Convention Centre, Indonesia.

Indian shuttler PV Sindhu gets Rs 30 lakh reward for bronze medal

Andhra Govt To Award Rs 30 Lakh To PV Sindhu

A sum of Rs 30 lakh will be awarded to Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist Indian shuttler PV Sindhu by the CM of Andhra Pradesh Jagan Mohan Reddy. According to the State Sports Policy, a bronze medallist is authorised to get Rs 30 lakhs in reward. The Andhra government has also permitted 2 acres of land for setting up Badminton Academy in Visakhapatnam.

Men's Duo Krishna Prasad Garaga, Vishnu Vardhan Goud Loses To England

Indian men's duo Krishna Prasad Garaga and Vishnu Vardhan Goud got knocked out of the Orleans Masters final on March 28. The duo faced England's Ben Lane and Sean Vendy in the final. Winning the first round by 21-19, the India pair went on to lose the remaining sets by 14-21 and 19-21.
