Bail Plea

A court in Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar rejected the bail application of politician and suspended BJP worker Shrikant Tyagi, on September 2. The bail plea was rejected by Special Judge (Gangsters Act) Ranvijay Pratap Singh in the District and Sessions Court. Notably, Tyagi was arrested for abusing a woman at Omaxe Grand Complex. The arrest was based on a viral video of him assaulting and abusing the Noida woman.

A Goa court rejected the bail plea of restaurant owner Edwin Nunes, accused arrested in BJP leader Sonali Phogat's death case. On August 28, the Goa court dismissed the petition and remanded Nunes and two others, drug peddlers Rama Mandrekar and Dattaprasad Gaonkar in five-day judicial custody. Furthermore, the Goa Government also said, they would approve a CBI investigation if needed. Notably, Sonali Phogat died in Goa on August 23.

Raj Kundra, actor Shilpa Shetty's husband and businessman, has asked the court for discharge in the alleged porn racket case. The crime section of the Mumbai police detained Kundra and Ryan Thorpe, the IT director for his business, in July of last year. The arrest was made for allegedly making and distributing pornographic movies using the "HotShots" smartphone app, which is supported by subscribers.

Sanjay Pandey, the former Mumbai Police Commissioner, was refused bail on August 4 by a Delhi court. In connection with a money laundering probe involving the tapping of National Stock Exchange (NSE) workers' phones, he was recently detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). AltNews co-founder Mohammed Zubair was released from judicial custody and walked out of Tihar Jail, on July 20 evening. He was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police in allegations of posting controversial tweets in 2018. The release was as per directions of the Supreme Court bench led by Justice DY Chandrachud, which reviewed Zubair's bail plea. The Top Court further ordered to transfer six-FIRs against Zubair to Delhi Police.
