Pro-Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh is likely to surrender on April 7. The surrender is expected to be before Akal Takht Conference.  In this regard, the Punjab Police has issued an extensive alert and high security across the state of Punjab. The fugitive Khalistani is on run since March and has escaped the huge force of Punjab Police. Meanwhile, Singh is releasing videos, claiming to appear before the world soon.

A contingent of Sikh Jatha has left Punjab for Pakistan, to celebrate Baisakhi in Lahore. One of the devotees rued that out of the 900 visa permit applications, only 705 permits could be approved, and hence, some devotees would miss the chance of Guru Drashan. Another pilgrim expressed the need for unity between the two neighbouring countries, and a relaxation in visa-related requirements.

Congressman John Garamendi, on April 15, introduced a new resolution seeking recognition of Baisakhi in the US. Introduced in the House of Representatives, "this resolution recognises the historic, cultural and religious significance of the festival 'Vaisakhi'.
