SP Leader Firoz Pappu Killed On Road In 'Cool-Blooded' Manner: UP
In a shocking incident, Samajwadi party leader and former chairman of Nagar Panchayat Tulsipur, Firoz Pappu was killed by unknown assailants in Uttar Pradesh's Balrampur, on January 3. Police said that the 41-year-old leader was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon while he was returning home from Jarwa. Reportedly, security has been increased in the region after Pappu's supporters started protests demanding the arrest of the murderers.

PM Modi Inaugurates Saryu Canal National Project In Uttar Pradesh
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 11 inaugurated the Saryu Canal National Project in Uttar Pradesh's Balrampur. The project will reportedly provide water for irrigation to over 14 lakh hectares of land, helping about 29 lakh farmers. However, the cost involved in the project is Rs 10,000 crores. Following the inauguration, PM Modi has invited everyone to join a big event on natural farming through TV on December 16.

UP-based Journalist, His Friend Die After Being Set Ablaze
In a horrific incident in Uttar Pradesh, a journalist and his friend were burnt to death in Balrampur district on November 28. The journalist, identified as Rakesh Singh, used to work for a Hindi daily. According to the district SP Dev Ranjan Verma, the incident seemed to be a murder case. "A team of forensic experts have also visited the spot," he added. Reportedly, the accused are not identified yet.

UP: Two Arrested for Allegedly Gang-raping and Killing Woman in Balrampur
The Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested two people for allegedly gang-raping a 22-year old girl in Balrampur’s Gaisari village. The Police have identified the accused as Sahil and Sahid. Reportedly, the woman was a second-year B.Com student and was attacked by the men while returning home from college, on September 29.The family said that she returned home with her legs and spine broken and passed away on the way to hospital.
