Overcrowded Mathura’s Banke Bihari Temple Causes Suffocation; 2 Dead, Six Injured

During Janmashtami celebrations on August 19, two people died of suffocation and six others were left injured after Banke Bihari temple in Mathura got overcrowded. The incident occurred during Mangla Arti, when two people died of suffocation, and another devotee fainted near the exit gate causing a disruption in the crowd movement. The deceased have been identified as Nirmala Devi and Ram Prasad Vishwakarma.

Huge Crowd Gathers At Banke Bihari Temple, One Dies Of Suffocation: Mathura

A devotee who had come to visit the Banke Bihari temple at Vrindavan in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, died of suffocation due to pressure from a mob. As per reports, the 65-year-old man, Laxman, was brought to the hospital by his relatives in an unconscious state where the doctors declared him dead. Notably, the temple management said that it has no information about the death of any devotee at the moment.

Family Puts Rs 11,000 Cash Reward To Find Its Lost 'Laddoo Gopal' Idol

A Delhi-based family has announced a cash prize of Rs 11,000 for anyone revealing the whereabouts of their Lord Krishna idol that went missing from Vrindavan's Banke Bihari temple. The family said their ‘Laddoo Gopal’ idol went missing after they took it for 'darshan' at Barsana temple on March 24. Besides, announcing the cash reward, the family also pasted the missing posters of the idol across Vrindavan.

UP: Banke Bihari Temple in Mathura Reopened for Devotees 

After adhering to COVID-19 precautionary protocols, Mathura's Banke Bihari temple re-opened on October 25 for the devotees. Police have been deployed in the temple to ensure the devotees adhering to the regulations. The temple which was shut on March 22 due to the pandemic, was reopened on October 15 assenting the court's order. However, the temple manager shut it again on October 19 as were unable to control the crowd.
