FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta stated that the "Catalans" had to compete for Robert Lewandowski's signature on a contract with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain "where he could earn more money." The Polish striker signed a four-year deal with FC Barcelona this summer in order to embark on a new adventure. The 33-year-old cleared his medical on July 18 in Miami, Florida, where FC Barcelona is preparing for the upcoming season. 

Shakira, a Colombian singer, and Gerard Pique, a defender for FC Barcelona, have announced their separation after a decade-long relationship on June 4. They had been living together on the outskirts of Barcelona for years and have two boys. The couple disclosed their split only a week after Spanish court records pushed Shakira closer to facing tax fraud charges in Spain after a Barcelona court refused her appeal.

Soon Barcelona is preparing to build its first cricket ground. Reportedly, the citizens in an initiative have offered the plan to invest $1.4 million to build a cricket pitch. The ground will likely be built on a hilltop location standing side to Barcelona's Olympic stadium. Approximately, there are 400 cricketers divided into 25 men’s and women’s teams in the city. “We will have our field here,” said team coach Shahbaz Shauqad.

After almost seven months, the authorities in Spain revoked the state of emergency declared due to COVID-19. The emergency was declared in October 2020 and it gave the government right to impose restrictions such as night curfew or banning the travel. "We're getting a bit of normality back, of freedom, but we have to keep in mind that the virus is still around," stated a citizen in Barcelona.
