SC Questions Centre, 4 States Over Plea Asking To Decriminalise Begging
The Supreme Court has sought responses from the Centre and Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab and Haryana governments over the plea which demands decriminalisation of begging. Centre Says India Has Over 4 Lakh Beggars; Highest In West Bengal
Union Social Justice Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot has stated that India has over four lakh beggars according to the 2011 census.
