Belgium, The First Country To Impose A Mandatory 21-Day Monkeypox Quarantine

Belgium is the first European country to impose a 21-day quarantine for monkeypox patients. This follows the discovery of the first monkeypox case in Switzerland on May 21. Currently, 14 countries, including four in Belgium, have reported recurrent outbreaks of the virus. All of the incidents were traced back to a festival in Antwerp, Belgium's port city.

Belgium Museum Returns Painting To Jewish Family After 71 Years

After 71 years, Belgium museum has returned a painting to the great-grandchildren of a Jewish couple. The 30 paintings including this were stolen by Nazis. The German artist Lovis Corinth, made the pink flowers in a vase painting that belonged to Gustav and Emma Mayer. "Altogether the family is looking for 30 artworks," lawyer Imke Gielen said. In 2008, museum authorities appealed to the people for information on the painting.

2 Hippos Test Positive For Covid-19 In Belgium's Antwerp Zoo

In Belgium's Antwerp Zoo, two hippos have been tested positive for Covid-19, said Francis Vercammen, the zoo's vet. The two hippos namely Imani and Hermein, are aged 14 and 41, respectively. The Hippos have been quarantined after they showed a symptom of runny nose. ''To my knowledge, this is the first time in this species globally,'' added Vercammen. Also, zookeepers haven't shown any symptoms of the virus so far.

People in Netherlands, France, and Belgium continued to protest on the COVID-19 curbs. According to reports, people continued to show up in numbers across the European cities with police deploying water cannons and tear gases to disperse the crowd. In view of increasing Corona Virus cases, the European Union had to issue tighter restrictions to curb the virus, where citizens are demanding to remove the mandate of compulsory vaccination.

Belgian Woman Claims 'Affair' With Chimpanzee; Zoo Authorities Ban Entry

Belgian woman Adie Timmermans's unconditional love for a 38-year-old chimpanzee named 'Chita' led her to be banned from visiting the Antwerp Zoo. Responding to the question of zoo authorities, she said that she is having an affair with Chita. However, the authorities were concerned about the chimpanzee as the other monkeys ignore him and don't consider him as a part of their group.

Germany Floods: Over 40 Dead, Multiple Missing

Germany has been ravaged by floods on July 15 resulting in cars being washed away and buildings crumble in the western states of Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia. Over 45 deaths have been reported and around 50 to 70 people are allegedly missing. The population near Liege’s Meuse River has been urged to shift to a higher altitude. The floods have also affected its neighboring country Belgium.

Belgian Divorced Woman Challenges IPC section 7D To Avail OCI Benefits

The Centre reiterated to Delhi High Court that foreign Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) cardholders cannot avail its benefits, if divorced. However, a Belgian woman divorced to an Indian man challenged section 7D(f) which talks about foregoing of OCI status on divorce. Surprisingly, the lady became a beneficiary of OCI in 2017 even after getting divorced in 2011. Currently, the ministry has given her an adequate time to explain her stand.

Belgium will keep the world's most stolen artwork called 'Ghent Altarpiece' in its safe custody at St Bavo Cathedral in Ghent-Belgium. Valued at $30 million, the 588-year-old art piece will be placed at 6-metre high bulletproof display inside the cathedral's largest chapel 'Sacrament chapel'. Indian Hockey Team To Resume International Stint With Europe Tour

The Indian men's hockey team is all set to restart its international stint post-COVID-19 induced lockdown as they travel to Germany on Feb 21. The 22-member squad will tour Germany and Belgium to ramp up its Olympic readiness.
