CM Mamata Banerjee Decides To Take Oath As Bhabanipur MLA On Oct 7

After winning the Bhabanipur byelection with over 58,000 votes, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee is set to take oath as an MLA at the State Assembly on October 7. Informing the development, TMC's General Secretary Partha Chatterjee said the party invited Governor Jagdeep Dhankar to administer the oath ceremony. However, Dhankar said he would take a call after the gazette notification on the Bhabanipur byelection result would be issued.

By-Poll In Bhabanipur Won't Be Rescheduled Says Calcutta High Court

Amid the suspense over Bhabanipur's by-election, the Calcutta High Court has clarified that the by-election in the Bhabanipur Lok Sabha constituency will be held on September 30. Reportedly, a man named Sayan Banerjee filed a PIL because the Election Commission was prioritising the election in Bhabanipur over other constituencies. Winning from Bhabanipur is very important for Mamata Banerjee to continue to be the CM of West Bengal.

If I Don't Win Bhabanipur Someone Else Will Become CM: Mamata Banerjee

TMC supremo and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on September 22 claimed that if she doesn't win the Bhabanipur bypolls someone else from her party will become Chief Minister of West Bengal. In the first election meeting in Ekbalpore, Banerjee stated that she will suffer if she doesn't get votes as every vote is important. However, TMC defeated BJP in two Hindu-dominated wards.

WB By-Election 2021: BJP Fields Priyanka Tibrewal Against Banerjee

To compete WB CM Mamata Banerjee in the Bhabanipur byelection, BJP on September 10, fielded city Lawyer Priyanka Tibrewal against Banerjee. The polling and the counting of votes will start on September 30 & October 3, respectively. Reportedly, BJP chose Tibrewal because she's famous and has "always stood for the cause of justice." Meanwhile, BJP also named Milan Ghosh, Sujit Das to contest byelection from Samserganj and Jangipur.

EC Declares By-Poll Election In Bhabanipur To Decide Mamata's Fate 

In the latest development, the Election Commission has permitted CM Mamata Banerjee to contest a by-poll from the Bhabanipur assembly seat on September 30, amid the menace of COVID-19. Notably, Banerjee has to win the Bhabanipur election if she wants to continue as West Bengal's CM. The counting of votes will be done on October 3. However, the by-poll election for the other 31 constituencies has been deferred.
