Bakul Foundation Urges People To Gift Plants To Celebrate Diwali: Odisha

Amid the decreasing air quality in the world, Bakul Foundation, based in Odisha's Bhubaneswar, came up with a unique idea to celebrate eco-friendly Diwali. The foundation is encouraging people to gift a potted plant inside a jute basket on this Diwali to their loved ones. The plants also include medicinal herbs. Reportedly, the move will help people to develop a new culture and save the Earth.

Bhubaneswar NGO Provides Job To Poor Kids, Helps Them In Education

Ashayen, an NGO based in Bhubaneswar, is receiving appreciation from people as they provide jobs to around 58 poor children such as rag pickers and help them ''to continue their education and livelihood''. Ahead of Diwali, children paint 'Diyas', which will be sold through social media platforms. The NGO provides them different jobs during different occasions such as New Year, Diwali, Rakhi, said Ratnakar, NGO's Chairman.

Men's Hockey Junior World Cup To Be Held Without Spectators

Hockey India and FIH have jointly decided to hold the FIH Odisha men's Hockey Junior World Cup Bhubaneswar 2021 without the presence of spectators, starting from November 24. The decision was taken to avoid the crowd amid the menace of Covid-19 infection. Reportedly, 16 teams from different countries will fight for the title. The classification matches will start on November 30 and the final is scheduled for December 5.

Schools Reopen In Odisha After 18 Months

Schools reopened in Odisha for 8th grade students after an 18-month gap on October 25. Reportedly, students were thrilled with the reopening of physical classes as they would now be able to interact better without any internet issues. A student said, "I am very excited to sit in the classroom after a gap of a year. I have met with my old friends and also made new friends today."

Sensory Park For Specially-Abled Children Opens In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) under the Smart City program has built a sensory park for differently-abled children. Reportedly, Rs 93 lakh has been invested in building the park which is located in the Shaheen Nagar area. The park features wheel-chair, two-seater, bucket, multiline swings, single-seater spring rider, and several others. Besides, the surface of the park is covered with sand for the safety of children.

Public Allowed To Visit Odisha's Shree Lingaraj Temple From January 3

The prestigious Shree Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar has reopened for servitors after being shut for nine months owing to the pandemic. The temple authorities said that the local people would be allowed from January 3 and the outsiders can visit from January 6. Besides, the temple would remain closed on January 1 and January 2 to avoid the rush. Meanwhile, a COVID-negative report is mandatory to visit the temple.

Odisha's police have arrested four people for selling marijuana in Bhubaneshwar's Jharpada Canal Road. The police have confiscated 83 kilograms of marijuana, two motorcycles, three mobile phones from the peddlers.
