Birbhum Violence: CBI Arrests E-Rickshaw Driver For Allegedly Buying Petrol Used In Arson

CBI on April 14, arrested Ritan Sheikh, marking it as the sixth arrest in the case of Birbhum Violence. Ritan Sheikh, an e-rickshaw driver allegedly drove to a gas station and bought petrol in plastic cans used in the arson. A video of his buying petrol has been kept with the CBI, said an official. Birbhum Violence witnessed the killing of nine people including six women and two children.

WB CM Takes Dig At BJP Over Central Probe Agency, BJP

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee took a dig at the BJP for launching a central probe in non-BJP state. Criticizing the BJP for sending CBI agency to WB Banerjee said, "No matter how much you do conspiracy by using CBI, ED, don't think us weak". Notably, the BJP-led Central Government ordered a CBI probe in the recent Birbhum violence, leading to the death of eight people in Birbhum.

CBI To Probe TMC Leader's Death Which Resulted In 'Birbhum Violence': West Bengal

The Calcutta High Court ordered CBI to probe into the death of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Bhadhu Sheikh, on April 8. The killing of Bhadhu Sheikh is believed to have resulted in the retaliatory killing of nine people in Bogtui village, which sparked a nationwide controversy. The CBI already ordered a CBI probe in the 'Birbhum violence' case. The nine people were burnt alive, last month.

Birbhum Violent Case: BJP Committee Submits Report To JP Nadda

To investigate the Birbhum Violence Case, the BJP formed a five-member committee, which submitted its report to the BJP National President JP Nadda. On March 30, the fact-finding committee, which recently visited Birbhum, West Bengal, and probed the killings of eight people, after the political outrage amid TMC leader's murder. Meanwhile, the Calcutta HC directed the WB SIT to hand over the case to the CBI, which named 21 accused.

Leader of opposition in West Bengal Suvendu Adhikari and four other BJP MLAs were suspended from the assembly on March 28. Birbhum Violence: Police Arrest 21 Persons In 72 Hours

After the Calcutta High Court ordered a CBI probe into the matter of Birbhum violence, the police arrested individuals in a span of 72 hours. The arrested persons include six family members of Bhadu Sheikh, TMC Rampurhat Block president Anarul Hussain, three building material suppliers and TMC supporters. The said persons have been charged for murder, rioting, mischief by fire or explosives and causing grievous hurt.

Calcutta HC Orders CBI Probe In Birbhum Violence Incident

Calcutta HC ordered a CBI probe in the Birbhum Violence case, which killed eight people in West Bengal. On March 25, the HC bench, comprising Chief Justice Prakash Shrivastava and Justice R Bharadwaj asked the state government formed SIT to hand over the case to the central agency. Notably, the HC took the decision in interest of justice, after taking suo-moto case and reviewing petitions seeking CBI investigation.

PIL Filed In SC, Demands SIT Investigation In Birbhum Violence

Vishnu Gupta,  the National President Hindu Sena filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court, demanding SIT probe in the Birbhum violence. The petitioner alleged the TMC cadres in order to take revenge of the murder of TMC leader Bahadur Shaikh, burnt eight people of Rampurhat region of Birbhum alive. Furthermore, he asked the SIT team to investigate the incident and submit report to the Apex Court.

Calcutta HC Takes Suo-Moto Case Over Birbhum Violence

The Calcutta HC registered a suo-moto case over recent Birbhum violent incident, on March 23. The HC will review the killing of eight people in Ramapuram, Birbhum, amid political controversy and alleged killing of TMC leader Bahadur Shaikh. Furthermore, the West Bengal Governor deplored a 3-page letter to CM Banerjee, suggesting it to be a political conspiracy behind the Birbhum Violence. Meanwhile HC Judge will review the matter at 2 pm.
