4-Year-Old Boy Infected With H3N8 Bird Flu, First Human Case In China

In China, a 4-year-old boy is the first human case of H3N8 Bird Flu in Henan province, reported China's National Health Commission, on April 26.  As per sources, the infected boy came in contact with chickens and crows, developing bird flu symptoms like fever. Furthermore, the CNHC said close contacts of the boy are not infected and the risk of infection spreading is low.

Supaul District Starts Culling To Prevent Bird Flu Spread: Bihar

After the Bihar Animal Husbandry department confirmed the spread of bird flu, Supaul district administration started killing birds, chickens and their eggs in the region. As per sources, birds in the range of 1-9 km range of affected areas are being killed to prevent the spread of the disease. Ram Shankar Jha, Animal Husbandry Officer said, "Teams have been deployed to sanitize the area completely".

Bird Flu Scare In Thane, 25,000 Chickens To Be Culled At Farm: Maharashtra

In Maharashtra's Thane district, about 100 chickens were found dead at a poultry farm in Vehloli village, said Collector Rajesh J Narvekar. Amid bird flu scare, the sample has been taken and sent to the Pune lab. About 25,000 birds falling in a kilometre radius of an affected poultry farm will be killed, said Collector Narvekar. Avian influenza affects wild birds without showing symptoms and is transmittable.

16,000 Ducks Culled In Kerala's Kottayam Amid Bird Flu Scare

Amid bird flu threat in Kerala's Kottayam District, the local authority started mass culling of 16,000 birds. As of December 16, at least 16,000 ducks have been culled in three panchayats- Kallara, Vechoor, and Aymanam. These three panchayats are the worst-affected region. After today's culling total bird count will be released, said Collector PK Jayasree. Earlier in January, over 10,500 birds were culled in Kottayam.

Bird Flu Cases Found In Kerala's 2 Districts; 80K Birds To Be Culled

In Vechoor, Kallara, and Aymanam of Kerala's Kottayam district and Alappuzha district's Nedumudy and Karuvatta, the cases of bird flu or H5N1 virus were confirmed, reported UNI on December 15. Reportedly, about 80,000 birds in a km radius of the locations will be culled to prevent the virus' spread. However, the authorities announced a compensation of ₹100 and ₹200 each for ducks below 60 days and above 60 days, respectively.

Rajasthan: 189 Kurja Birds Dead; 2 Bird Flu Cases Reported In Jodhpur

India Reports First Death Of Bird Flu At AIIMS Delhi

An 11-year-old boy from Haryana has succumbed to bird flu on July 20 at AIIMS, Delhi. This is reported to be the first case of the H5N1 virus, also known as “avian influenza” or “blue flu.” The staff who was in contact with the patient has been hospitalized with pneumonia and leukemia. Besides, the Centre has confirmed flu in poultry in Haryana, Delhi, Maharashtra, and others.
